Virtual Reality Office See pictures of the VR Office. Based on the success of the virtual classroom, we have built a virtual office environment as an open platform for assessment and rehabilitation of cognitive and vocational performance in adults. In collaboration with the Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research Center (New Jersey), we have conducted research with Traumatic Brain Injured (TBI) subjects on contextualized object memory. The scenario produced results with this population that extended beyond what is possible with traditional paper and pencil memory assessment instruments. This environment is now being programmed to conduct assessment and rehabilitation trials for attention and executive functioning. We have also developed a camera system for capturing 360-degree panoramic video (PV), whereby users can observe pictorially accurate video scenes of "real world" environments delivered via an immersive head mounted display (HMD). Healthy young subjects are currently being tested on how much they can remember from an actual captured event (in similar fashion to the Wechsler Memory Scale-Logical Memory Subtest), under varying levels of immersion. The results from this research will serve as an initial feasibility test for later studies using this system with persons having cognitive impairments due to TBI and stroke.
